STATE/ UT-WISE DETAILS OF UNSPENT FUND OF WATER SUPPLY SCHEMES

Since August 2019, Government of India in partnership with States, is implementing Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM)-Har Ghar Jal to enable every rural household in the country to have assured potable water through tap connection. Further, Water being a State subject, it is the States who plan, implement and operate & maintain water supply schemes. Government of India supplements the efforts of the States by providing technical and financial assistance. Details of Central fund lying unspent with States as reported under JJM as on 02.08.2023 is annexed.

To provide financial support to State Governments, Government of India, through Ministry of Finance (Department of Expenditure), is extending Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment with allocation of an amount of Rs. 1.30 lakh Crore for 2023-24 as 50-year interest free loan. Out of this, an amount of Rs. 1 lakh Crore has been earmarked for Part-I (Untied) and 20 percent of the funds allocated under Part-I may be utilized by the States for contributing State’s share for Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) and Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana for 2023-24.

Further, under the JJM, convergence of funds with other schemes such as MGNREGS, Integrated Watershed Management Programme (IWMP), 15th Finance Commission tied grants to RLBs/ PRIs, State schemes, CSR funds, etc. has also been envisaged.

This information was given by the Minister of State for Jal Shakti, Shri Prahlad Singh Patel in a written reply in Rajya Sabha today.
