The Global vector control response 2017–2030 provides strategic guidance to countries and development partners for urgent strengthening of vector control as a fundamental approach to preventing disease and responding to outbreaks.
To achieve this requires re-alignment of vector control programmes, supported by increased technical capacity, improved infrastructure, strengthened monitoring and surveillance systems, and greater community mobilization.
Ultimately, this will support implementation of a comprehensive approach to vector control that will enable the achievement of disease-specific national and global goals and contribute to achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
The Global vector control response 2017–2030 was developed through a fast-tracked consultative process that commenced in June 2016.
Development was co-led by three departments (WHO Global Malaria Programme, WHO Department for Control of Neglected Tropical Diseases, and the Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases) with support from WHO regional offices and a Steering Committee.
Broad inputs were solicited from Member States and other stakeholders through a one-month online consultation and through other global and regional fora.
The Global vector control response 2017–2030 received strong support from Member States at the WHO Executive Board 140th session in January 2017.
On 30 May 2017 the strategic approach was welcomed by the World Health Assembly at its 70th session, and a draft resolution was approved.
