Sathiyan Gnanasekaran Wins Belgium Open

Sathiyan Gnanasekaran has become only the second Indian table tennis player to win an ITTF event.

At De Haan in Belgium, he clinched the men’s singles title of the Belgium Open by defeating local player Nuytinck Cedric 4-0 in the final, 15-13, 11-6, 11-2, and 17-15. It is his first his first pro title.

Achanta Sharath Kamal is the first Indian to win an ITTF event in 2012.

Sathiyan, a 24-year-old from Chennai, made several upsets, starting in the second round when he beat world number 103 Jon Persson.

In the quarterfinals, he defeated world number 75 Steffen Mengel before eventually winning against world number 113 Cedric in the final.
