Principal scientist from the National Chemical Laboratory H V Thulasiram has been selected for the national bioscience award for career development (N-Bios Prize) for 2015.
The award has been instituted by the department of biotechnology, union ministry of science and technology to recognize the outstanding contributions of young bio-scientists through a grant for research projects to help their careers.
The award aims to boost outstanding research in basic and applied biosciences. It carries a cash prize of Rs 2 lakh, a research grant of Rs 5 lakh per year for three years and a citation.
Thulasiram has been selected for his contributions to research in isoprenoid biosynthesis. His group is involved in studying chemistry and biology aspects of natural products with special emphasis on their isolation, characterization, biological activity and chemo-enzymatic modifications.
Thulasiram has done his PhD from IISc, Bengaluru and post-doctoral research at University of Iowa, and University of Utah, USA.
