RAJIV GANDHI ADVENTURE SCHEME
- Rajiv Gandhi Adventure Scheme was launched in 2009 for promoting adventure activities amongst students. Under the Scheme, special adventure camps are planned on a yearly basis for 2000 NSS volunteers with at least 50% of the volunteers being girl students.
INDIRA GANDHI NSS (IGNSS) AWARDS
- In 1993-94, during the Silver Jubilee year of NSS, the IGNSS Awards were instituted to give recognition to selfless service rendered by the NSS volunteers, programme officers and the programme coordinators.
- These awards are conferred to: (i) Best University (Programme Coordinator). (ii) Best Upcoming University for doing commendable work in innovative areas and socially relevant issues (iii) 6 best Programme Officers and 6 units and (iv) 16 best NSS volunteers.
- From 2010 onwards, the number of awards and the prize money have been enhanced.
YOUTH TO EDGE SCHEME
- A New Scheme “Youth to Edge” to promote the adventure activities in the north eastern states of India, has been started in 2012 by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DONER) in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports.
- Under the scheme, 2000 NSS volunteers from across the country will visit Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland for adventure training Programmes.
- This will promote eco-friendly tourism in the unexplored areas of North Eastern Region and will also promote the study of flora and fauna.
RAIIV GANDHI NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF YOUTH DEVELOPMENT (RGNIYD)
- Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development (RGNIYD) was established at Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu in 1993 as an autonomous organisation under the Department of Youth Affairs as a
- It was meant to be a National Think Tank for training, higher education and research in youth related studies.
- It was accorded the status of deemed University by the Ministry of HRD on 23rd October, 2008.
- This Institute has launched five post graduate programmes (MA) in Youth Empowerment, Career Counselling, Gender Studies, Local Governance and Life Education and MA Development Practice Programme.
