SERVICES TRADE
- India’s share in global exports and imports of commercial services increased to 4% and 3.0% in 2012.
- During 2013-14, services exports was US $ 151.5 billion with a growth of 4.0% compared to the previous year.
- Imports of services were US$ 5 billion with a negative growth of 2.8% compared to 2012-13.
- Net services were US$ 73.0 billion which was higher by 12.4% compared to 2012-13.
SOCIAL SECTOR DEVELOPMENT
- The poverty ratio in the country, as per Tendulkar estimates, has come down from 37.2% in 2004-05 to 9% in 2011-12.
- In absolute terms, the number of poor has declined from 407.1 million in 2004-05 to 3 million in 2011-12.
- Between 2004-05 and 2011-12, the average annual decline in the poverty ratios was 2 percentage points per year which is around three times higher than the decline in the poverty ratio during the period 1993-94 to 2004-05.
- The allocation for Gender Budgeting as percentage of total Budget has gone up from 2.79% in 2005-06 to 91% in 2012-13.
IMPORTANT SCHEMES TO ACHIEVE INCLUSIVE GROWTH:
- Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA): This scheme has been provided a sum of Rs.33,000 crore in the Budget 2013-14. The share of women in total person per days generated is well above the stipulation of 1/3 as per the Act.
- Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY): During the current year, PMGSY has been allocated a sum of Rs. 21,700 crores for connecting 3,500 habitations and construction of 27,000 km roads. A total length of 2,34,402 km of roads have been constructed for new connectivity.
- Indira Awaas Yojana (IAY): During the current financial year Rs.15,184 crore has been allocated for rural housing, out of which Rs.13,894.90 crore were earmarked for release to District Rural Development Agencies under IAY for construction of 24.81 lakh houses.
- National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM): Swarnajayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojana (SGSY) has been restructured and implemented as the National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM), since 2011-12.
- Swarna Iayanti Shahari Rozgar Yojana (SISRY): The SISRY launched on 1st December, 1997, aims at providing gainful employment to the urban unemployed and underemployed.
- National Health Mission (NHM): The National Urban Health Mission (NUHM) was launched in 2013 as a sub-mission of National Health Mission (NHM), with National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) being the other Submission. NRHM seeks to provide accessible, affordable and quality health care to the rural population, especially the vulnerable groups.
- Mid-Day Meal (MDM): Some important programmes in the education sector viz. the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) supported by the Mid-Day Meal Scheme (MDMS), intend to ensure provision of elementary education to all the children in the 6-14 age group.
- Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY): Under the Yojana, more than 3.71 BPL families are having the RSBY active smart cards by April 2014. Apart from the BPL families, the coverage of RSBY has been extended to various other categories of unorganized workers such as sanitation workers, rickshaw pullers, rag pickers, mine workers and auto / taxi drivers.
