ACHIEVEMENTS AND CONTRIBUTIONS
- Successful indigenous development and production of strategic systems and platforms such as Agni and Prithvi series of missiles, nuclear powered submarine, Arihant and wide range of tactical weapons and support system such as Tejas light combat aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles, Arjun-main battle tank, electronic warfare systems, sensors, armaments, ammunition, etc., have given quantum jump to India’s military might.
- Some recent additions to the long list of successes are Initial Operational Clearance of ‘Tejas’ Light Combat Aircraft, commencement of induction process of Agni 4 long range ballistic missle, the repeat copybook launch of Agni 5 Inter-continental Ballistic Missile and maiden launch of longer range K4; development of ‘Arjun Mk-II main battle tank’, maiden launch of India’s long range cruise missle “Nirbhay”, development of Airborne Early Warning & Control (AEW&C) System and development of ‘Rustom II the Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) UAV’.
- The bio-digesters originally developed for armed forces for use in cold regions, have adapted passenger coaches in Indian Railways and soon soiled tracks will be a thing of past. Bio—digesters are also being installed in Lakshadweep islands and about 2.4 lakh Gram Panchayats in phases.
- Three DRDO chairs have been created at Bengaluru, Delhi and Hyderabad.
- In a new initiative, DRDO has created a Research and Innovation Centre (RIC) at the Research Park of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Madras, Chennai, to give more impetus to directed research in cutting edge technologies in close association with academia, industry, and research scholars.
